Belize Diving
The variety of marine life along the Belize Barrier Reef is among the best in the Caribbean. There is a variety of marine life that inhabits nearly every niche found in the Caribbean. Reef fish and deep water species are often found on the same site. Spawning, mating, cleaning, predation and most other fish behaviors are continually on display. Divers in Belize will often encounter unusual and rare species (such as three species of toadfish) or could possibly discover a previously unidentified fish or invertebrate. Marine life abound such as mating trunkfish, spawning groupers, swarming Nurse Sharks and smoking sponges; all in Belizean waters. Schools of friendly dolphins, schooling Eagle Rays, enormous sea turtles, minnow-filled caverns, Giant Manta Rays, docile Jewfish and even Whale Sharks are all possible undersea encounters in Belize. Near Ambergris Caye, the immediate dive environment includes more than 20 miles of barrier reef found parallel to the island about one-quarter mile offshore. More than 40 named dive sites can be reached from resort and town docks, including: Hol-Chan Marine Park, Shark-Ray Alley, Amigos Wreck, M and M Caverns and Punta Azul Canyons, giant reef formations, Turneffe Islands Atoll and Lighthouse Reef Atoll, including the Great Blue Hole. BELIZE and San Pedro SCUBA DIVES & DIVING TRIPS Diving in the Blue Hole - Belize Here is a good site with lots of maps and info about dive sites. Our signature trip is an overnighter to Turneffe. Our group of friends leaves San Pedro Town in our 38' dive boat and we head South for the Turneffe atoll. Upon arriving at the islands we spend the day diving various sites including the famous Elbow (one of the worlds top rated dive sites). The group sets up camp on a privately owned island in the atoll. Island Divers Belize supplies food, drinks, and camping equipment. We prepare freshly caught fish and ceviche, the cooking is done on a campfire on the beach. Volleyball, horseshoes, and ever evolving beach games often go on well into the night. Waking to a sunrise on a tiny island in the Caribbean is an experience that is hard to beat. The second day includes more incredible dives around the atoll or a trip to the world famous Blue Hole. This trip is a total of 5 dives and some really great snorkeling. We return to San Pedro Town in time for happy hour at the Pier Lounge where we enjoy movies and photos from the trip. This trip is always very popular for both guests and staff and is a great way to experience the natural beauty that Belize has to offer. |
